Timo Kube constructs paintings that are concerned with the perception of the world around us. The ways in which we understand surroundings are built out of a subjectivity that is informed not only by what we see, but also by what we are conditioned to see.
This series of paintings by Kube are formed from a single piece of film footage shot in Geneva that depicts light playing off the surfaces of a number of doors. Translated by the act if painting, the representation highlights the ambiguous nature of seeing that is formulated as much from doubt as it is from knowledge. Oscillating in this in-between state of the real and its representation these works capture the imperceptible boundary of object as image and image as representation.
